Mark Kehr

The Northwood Club is the culmination of nearly thirty years of fitness and health leadership for club developer and co-owner, Mark Kehr. Mark moved to Toronto from California (where he was a finalist in the prestigious Mr. America contest) expressly to introduce the idea of personal training into Canada in 1988. Starting with Fitness One-on-One, Canada's first personal training fitness club, he has designed and owned five successful clubs, each introducing the newest and most effective approaches to health and fitness. Most recently Mark owned and operated Toronto's most prestigious fitness club (The Yorkville Club) which he sold to US club giant, Equinox.

Mark has always maintained that great health clubs improve the lives of their members through personal and sincere relationships --an approach his many noteworthy clients (including filmmaker Norman Jewison, actor Jeremy Irons, designer Alfred Sung, Peter Munk, Edward Bronfman and songwriters Allanis Morrisette and Kim Stockwood) can attest to. To quote Mark: "The only way a fitness program can work is if the program is individually tailored to the needs of the individual it is meant to serve." This personal approach accounts for Mark's success in this business, and is his personal promise to each and every member of The Northwood Club.

Peter Stevens

Peter Stevens, co-owner of The Northwood Club, came to the world of fitness and health clubs in the most authentic way possible: as a person whose life was changed by adopting a healthier lifestyle, he decided to spend the rest of it helping others enjoy the same good health as he does. After a successful career, including a chain of retail framing and art galleries, Peter found himself overweight and overstressed. As did many people, he put his health in the hands of Mark Kehr, and within months found himself fifty pounds lighter, less stressed and a much happier person. He was hooked and determined to make health and fitness his career.

Initially joining Mark as manager, and then partner, in The Yorkville Club, Peter has become a consummate fitness club professional. As a firm believer in the importance of personal service, he understands the basic philosophy that drives The Northwood Club today: each member is an individual with individual needs that can only be met through personal relationships in a caring and supportive environment. "And," Says Peter, "there is no place on earth where developing personal relationships can be more easy or more rewarding, than right here in Collingwood."
